HYDERABAD: Dell Inc, a global IT products and services provider, Tuesday began work on its new campus in Hyderabad. The campus, which will house Dell's call centre, will come up on 6.6 acres in Hitec City on the city outskirts and start operations in March next year. Dell will move its entire customer contact centre operations from its current leased premises in Hitec City. This customer contact centre was opened in March 2003. Unveiling the building plan here, John Hamlin, senior vice president of Dell's US Consumer and International Services segments, said India had a big part in Dell's growth plans. "We are delighted to have our campus in Hyderabad. Dell will continue to grow in India," he said. The new Dell campus will include state-of-the-art offices, cafeteria, gymnasium and other modern facilities for the welfare of employees. Hamlin, however, declined to reveal the investment Dell would make in the project. Hyderabad is the home of Dell's second customer contact centre in India. The first centre opened in Bangalore in May 2001. Dell had opened a sales and marketing office in Bangalore in 1996. The company plans to open a third centre in Chandigarh in March 2005. Earlier, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy unveiled the foundation stone for the Dell campus. "Building our own campus is a clear indication of Dell's long-term commitment to India and Hyderabad," said Romi Malhotra, managing director, Dell India. "The customer contact centres in India have transitioned into a premier operation for Dell," he added. The Hyderabad centre offers multiple services to various Dell business segments, including sales, customer care, technical support, e-mail support and shared services. The company officials said more functions could be added in the future depending on business requirements. A statement released on the occasions said Dell Inc's revenue for the past four quarters totalled $47.3 billion. Dell, through its direct business model, designs, manufactures and customizes products and services to customer requirements, and offers an extensive selection of software and peripherals.
