Dell acquires Boomi, aims cloud computing

Bangalore: U.S. computer giant Dell announced that it has acquired Boomi, a company that provides Web-based or "cloud" computing services. Dell said that the acquisition will allow the company helps businesses reap the full value of cloud computing," where software or services are hosted on the Web and available on demand. Clients of Boomi include NetSuite and Salesforce.com etc. Dell's nearest rival International Business Machines Corp bought a similar software company Cast Iron Systems earlier this year. No information was forthcoming from the Dell camp regarding the financial terms of the Boomi acquisition, and the deal will abide by the usual customary closing conditions. Dell said Boomi that manages millions of transactions a month and has completed tens of thousands of cloud integrations for hundreds of customers globally across a wide spectrum of industries. "Twenty-six years ago we helped accelerate the move to client-server computing; today we'll help drive a similar transformation with customers turning to the cloud to drive costs down and innovation up," said Steve Felice, President of Dell's consumer, small and medium business division.
