Delhiites most prosperous

NEW DELHI: The citizens of the national capital are among the most prosperous people the country. A study on the 'Assets and liabilities of household sector in Delhi' shows that Delhiites were way ahead of everybody in the nation in terms of are being the most affluent. Delhi ranked third in the country with respect to average value of assets per households in urban area after Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala. According to the findings, an average value of assets per family in the capital was 2.4 times higher than the national average and the debt per family six times lower than the country's benchmark. The average value of assets owned per family in Delhi was estimated at Rs 7.42 lakh, while the average value of assets per person worked out to Rs 1.62 lakh. Prepared by the Directorate of Economics and Statistics on the basis of a sample survey, the report further said that of the total assets, land accounted for 59 percent and buildings 29 percent. Delhi also showed itself in a comfort zone in terms of average amount of debt. The city accounted for an average amount of loans per family at only Rs 1366 as against the all India average of Rs 8694. The average amount of debt per household was the highest in the self-employed category.
