New Delhi: Sweepers in the national capital will soon be marking attendance by pressing their fingers on biometric machines as its primary civic agency steps up efforts to digitize its administration. "The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is setting up site offices at various areas under its jurisdiction where sweepers can keep their equipment and mark attendance on biometric machines," Vijender Gupta, chairman of the standing committee of the civic agency, said Tuesday. The MCD aims to digitise its administration ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games the city is set to host. "These machines will be installed at each and every site office for facilitating e-governance and the sweeper will finger-in to mark his attendance," Gupta said while addressing a delegation of the Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh, a committee that represents sweepers. The members of the delegation included national president Ram Chander Saarwan, founder and general secretary Rajpal Mehrolia and Delhi chairman Sant Lal Chamaria. The delegation had presented a memorandum of demands to the chairman here Monday. The demands included increasing the quota of substitute sweepers, regularization of sweepers appointed on compassionate grounds, filling up vacancies of supervisory staff, and construction of quarters under the Dr. Ambedkar Awas Yojna Scheme.
