New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was conferred an award Sunday by the Power Ministry for adopting special measures that result in energy conservation. Satish Kumar, DMRC's director (electrical), received the award on behalf of DMRC from Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde at the National Energy Awards function held at the Hyatt Hotel here. The measures that were lauded by the ministry included utilisation of energy regenerated during braking the trains for air conditioning and lighting, management of lighting in stations and tunnels, use of solar energy in parking lots, and optimisation of air conditioning in trains and stations. DMRC has been previously given ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications for good environmental management and has also been recognised by the United Nations as the first railway project to earn carbon credits.
