NEW DELHI: The Indian unit of German auto giant DaimlerChrysler Monday said it was exploring the possibility of launching its most expensive car in the Indian market with a price tag close to 30 million. "We are studying the issue of launching the Maybach in the Indian market," said Hans-Michael Huber, managing director and chief executive officer of DaimlerChrysler India Private Limited. "We are currently studying the technical and economic feasibility of the car in the Indian market. We will very much like to have the car here as soon as possible," Huber told reporters here. "The launch of the Maybach in India will not happen before next year," he said. The luxury saloon, which will be imported as a completely built unit, would sport a price tag of close to 30 million, making it the costliest car to be rolled out from the company's stable in India. DaimlerChrysler India Private Ltd., the wholly owned arm of its German parent, currently makes the E, S and C class models of luxury Mercedes cars at its facility in Pune. These cars are priced in the range of 2 million to 6 million. The aim behind launching the Maybach brand in India is to establish the company at the very top of a small but highly exclusive market segment in which customers require the highest standards in technology, design and quality, Huber said.
