Kolkata: A combination of complex mathematical methods using sophisticated computer algorithms to prevent unwanted eavesdropping and malicious modifications on the Internet has been developed by a cryptologist of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) here. Professor Palash Sarkar, a cryptologist with the institute, has developed the internationally best known method for securing communication over the Internet and improvement of speed over previous methods, an ISI spokesman told PTI. "Technically, this step is called a mode of operation of a block cipher for achieving Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data (AEAD)," he said. It also provides customisable features for a user to reconfigure the algorithm uniquely without losing the benefits of best possible speed and the assurance of provable security. "This flexibility will be immensely beneficial to defence establishments which do not use publicly known cryptographic algorithms for use," the spokesman said.
