BANGALORE: Companies concerned about offshore information security have one more reason to turn to Covansys Corporation (Nasdaq: CVNS), a global consulting and technology services company, which today announced that it has been selected by the Controller of Certifying Authority (CCA), Government of India, Ministry of Information Technology, to conduct digital signature license audits. As part of this assignment, Covansys recently completed an audit of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam, Ltd.'s (MTNL) digital signature certificate infrastructure. As one of the auditors chosen by the CCA, Covansys provides audit reports to the CCA on compliance status. The CCA then grants or declines applicants the license for issuing digital signature certificates based upon the audit information, the evaluation of physical and technology environment checks, and application and process review. MTNL, a large public sector telecommunications company, plans to issue digital signature certificates in accordance with government guidelines including the Information Technology Act 2000. This act recognizes that digitally signed documents, verified with the digital signature certificates and issued by CCA-authorized organizations, as the legal equivalent of a hand-written signature. "Covansys is pleased to have been selected by the CCA for our expertise in information security. This award underscores Covansys' long-standing commitment to taking the risk out of offshore outsourcing," said Krishnaswamy Subrahmaniam, president and chief executive officer, Covansys India and Asia Pacific. "Covansys has been adhering to the highest industry standards for more than a decade as part of our CMM Level 5 requirements. We are delighted to be working with the CCA and to have completed our first audit, on their behalf, of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd." Covansys began operations in India in 1991. Today, the company has one of the largest offshore capabilities of any U.S.-based technology services provider, with more than 2000 full-time employees. Two of the company's three wholly owned development centers in India are SEI CMM(R) Level 5 certified, and all three are ISO 9001:2000 certified and assessed at Level 5 in PCMM(R). In addition to providing solutions to clients in Asia Pacific, Covansys has more than a decade of experience successfully managing offshore outsourcing projects for over four dozen North American and European clients including Guardian Life Insurance Company and Henry Ford Health Systems.
