Convergys to double staff to 20,000

HYDERABAD: USA based Convergys Corporation, is planning to double the BPO staff over the next two years in India. At present the company employees about 10,000 at its seven centers spread across Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. "We are looking at about 20,000 people in a year or two. While a majority of this number would be on the BPO operations, the increase in the software development center is also on the anvil," said the company EVP for global IMG operations Larry S Schwartz. The company also formally announced the opening of its software development center in Hyderabad. The center was started in April 2004. "We have formally announced the opening of this facility today, which houses 600 software developers presently. The second phase of the facility would be ready by April this year and we intend to add 600 more in this facility by the end of this year," added Schwartz. The company is looking at India to market its billing software Infinys, for telecom companies in India. ‘’Wireless telephony is growing at a faster rate in India. We are talking to major Indian telecom operators to market our product," informed Schwartz.
