BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to give concessions to IT industries to encourage setting up of software units in the state. Properties acquired by such industries have been exempted from stamp duty. Exemption from Free Area Ratio (FAR) has been given for the establishment of software units in various cities of the state, an official release said. Accordingly, 25 percent exemption in FAR would be given for these units in Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur. The release stated that IT units would be provided facilities under labour laws on the basis of self-certification. These industries would have a general permission to work in three shifts. Besides, new IT units would be exempted from electricity duty for a period of five years from the date they go into production. Premium and lease rent on the land and building allotted to IT units in industrial areas would be charged at industrial rates. Arrangements have been made to provide facilities to these industries, considering IT was a thrust area. The use of IT for the common person would be promoted. The Gyandoot information centre would provide useful information to the people. The transport department has launched a smart card scheme for driving licences and registration of vehicles. About 800,000 smart cards have been issued so far. Revenue records have also been computerised and the copies of land accounts are given to farmers through computers. The commercial taxes department has been fully computerised.
