Companies resort to creativity to settle employee issues
Bangalore: In order to tackle and identify the problem of employee dissatisfaction, the companies are trying out varying methods to satisfy the employees. They are organizing skip-level meetings 'beer-bashes' and even taking entire teams on an outdoor trips so that deep-rooted employee grouses can be understood and addressed. A lot of things that cannot be said in a one on one meeting can be articulated over a 'beer bash'. Kamal Karnath, MD of Kelly Services, takes he takes his team to climb Garur Maachi, a fort near Pune, that gets the whole team drenched in rains, as well. "These are great ways to handle disgruntled employees, since colleagues who have particularly not liked each other before, too, can build a sense of camaraderie." Traditional measures, like letting employees walk freely into seniors' cabins, are not executed on a proper basis but hardly practised. Employees even baulk under pressure and in fear of confronting their seniors keep tending their grievances. IT bellwether Wipro, for example, has recruited ombudspersons. "Any employee can report violation of rules, ensuring that all employees can air their views and opinions without fear of retribution," say VP human resources Joseph John. Anand Karir, creative director of DDB India, says his company has a monthly event titled 'Full moon, full monty', where DDB staff can bounce off advertising ideas for any client on top bosses, who will be present.
