NEW DELHI: India will export around 2.10 lakh tonne of coffee this season (2002-03), Coffee Board said on Friday. Being an export-oriented coffee nation, more than 70 per cent will be exported at whatever international price is offered, Lakshmi Venkatachalam, the chairperson of the Board, said. She estimates that the country would produce around 2.8- lakh tonne coffee this season and the post-monsoon estimates would be no different from the figure. Exports this year at 2.10 lakh tonne will only be marginally lower than last season's 2.13 lakh tonne, she was quoted as saying by an agency. Currently, there is a lot of uncertainty over the international prices due to speculation over the current Vietnamese crop and next year's (2003-04) likely output in Brazil, she added.
