Bangalore: Cisco Systems and Citrix have partnered to offer a package to run several virtual desktops across an organization. The new offer combines the benefits of Citrix XenDesktop with Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) to accelerate the enterprise-wide adoption of virtual desktops and apps. The new solution characterizes the advanced I/O and extended memory management capabilities of the Cisco UCS system. This characteristic makes it apt for desktop virtualization, especially in the case of memory-intensive VDI-based desktops running Windows 7. The joint solution will provide pre-configured service profiles for hosted and shared VDI desktops. This will speed up the set up and deployment. The simplified packaging of the deal will at first cover 300 desktops. The expansion packs will encapsulate tens of thousands of desktops in a plug-n-play, modular fashion. A single support number will provide a smoother customer experience. Jackie Ross, Vice President, Cisco, said about the new offer, "The idea behind the as-yet-unnamed offering is to bring simplicity to the desktop market."
