Cisco sets up new unit in Bangalore

Bangalore: Cisco, a global networking solutions provider, has set up a new business unit in Bangalore, its first outside the U.S. for R&D requirements. Ranganath Salgame, who had earlier led Cisco India and Cisco Systems (India & SAARC) as the President will head the unit. The new business unit will focus on intelligent infrastructure, which comes under the emerging technology group within the company and has a potential to touch at least $1 billion in revenue. Cisco has three different technology groups within the company, including core technology, advanced technology and emerging technology groups. Each of these groups have their own business units reported Business Standard. Cisco India currently employs about 2,200 people. Launching various products and solutions in the emerging technologies area in the recent past, Cisco is looking at India as one of its key markets for these products and solutions.
