Cisco introduces new carrier routing system in India

NEW DELHI: Cisco Systems, Inc., today announced the Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System, a new class of routing systems designed to deliver continuous system operation, service flexibility and extended system longevity to telecommunications service providers and research organizations in India. This innovative routing system is the world's most advanced routing platform till date - and will offer Indian service providers to scale network capacity to new levels and deliver next-generation data, voice and video services over a converged Internet Protocol (IP) network while protecting their investments in the system. The Cisco CRS-1 has been developed with a team of about 500 engineers over the last four years, with an investment of USD 500 million. Speaking about the launch, Rangu Salgame, President (India & SAARC), Cisco Systems India & SAARC said, "Indian service providers, today, are looking to increase profitability by focusing on network and service convergence to reduce total cost of ownership, and adding new, revenue-generating services. Cisco has been consistently innovating - by investing over USD 3 billion every year to create intelligent and reliable next-generation IP-based solutions to address service provider and enterprise customer needs. The introduction of the new Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System in the Indian market is a key proof point of this investment strategy. The Cisco CRS-1 will enable Indian service providers to leapfrog an entire technology generation and address their current business requirements, while providing investment protection for tomorrow. " The Cisco CRS-1; apart from being the fastest routing platform in the world today; enables reliable, large-scale delivery of high-bandwidth applications, including video on demand, online gaming, and real-time interactive services. The routing platform is capable of delivering up to 92 terabits per second of throughput - and will future proof service provider networks well into the future. Speaking at the launch of the Cisco CRS-1 in India; Kelly Ahuja, Vice President - Marketing, Carrier Systems Group, Cisco Systems, Inc said, "The Cisco CRS-1 is a result of our partnership with our service provider customers to redefine how next-generation IP networks are built to deliver data, voice and video applications.
