Cisco eyes India for manufacturing

New Delhi: Global networking providers Cisco Systems Inc. said India could be a strategic location for manufacturing its products. "India can be a primary place for us for manufacturing," John Chambers, Chairperson and Chief Executive of Cisco, said on the margins of a seminar with Indian industry leaders organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The $30 billion Cisco Systems has a software development center in Bangalore. In October last year Cisco committed an investment of $1.1 billion over three years into India for research and development activities. Some of the IT giant's Indian clients include ICICI Bank, Tata group, Reliance group, Infosys Technologies, Wipro, the Taj Group of Hotels, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Lever and National Highway Authority of India. Chambers is scheduled to meet Communication and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran later in the day to make some strategic announcements.
