Center to bar officials from using private emails
New Delhi: With the terrorists on strike, the center has directed its officials to shift from the popular email services like Gmail, Yahoo to the government's secured mail service provided by the National Informatics Center. Infact, even the government departments, wherein the computers carry certain sensitive information, will be barred from accessing emails services from servers located in foreign territories. With communication being the basic need for any proceeding, the governments resort to the private email services due to their speed. However, the apprehensions occur as any information, once mailed, is exposed to unnecessary risk of being misused since it reaches a foreign destination before it reaches the intended receiver. Moreover, the risk of falling into wrong hands and posing a threat to the country compels them to ensure safety by enforcing the switch of the mails services on the officials. But such regulations have been formed earlier too, with the intelligence bureau outlining the etiquette for the usage of various IT tools. As reported by Economic Times, it is not only the government officials but also the private organizations who are scrutinizing similar directions for safety reasons. The firms may impose restrictions on accessing any other email service, apart from the official one, from their work stations.
