NEW DELHI: India's booming mobile phone industry served the cause of democracy with at least two service providers sending SMS messages to their subscribers in the capital urging them to exercise their franchise. In messages addressed to "dear subscriber", AirTel and Hutch noted that Monday was polling day in the capital and everybody should exercise their franchise. Some mobile firms have also made arrangements to provide the latest election results when they are declared on Thursday. According to industry figures, there were 28 million mobile phone users in India in April as against 10 million in January 20 and their number is going up at the rate of two million every month.
