Caterpillar to set up e-logistics biz

NEW DELHI: Caterpillar Inc is setting up a subsidiary for e-logistics business in India that would provide services to the MNC and its world-wide subsidiaries. According to a business daily, the proposed subsidiary will be implemented under Caterpillar's existing Indian venture, Caterpillar Commercial Private Ltd. The e-logistics venture will be located in Bangalore. The proposed e-logistics venture will provide various IT-enabled services such as data processing supply chain management, application software and web development to Caterpillar Inc and its various subsidiaries world-wide. Details about the investments to be made by Caterpillar for the proposed IT sourcing venture could not be known immediately, the daily, Economic Times, said. Caterpillar Inc, which operates in about nine businesses, has over 250 centres operating world-wide. Of these, 107 are manufacturing centres and the remaining are in areas such as marketing, logistics and servicing and distribution. The US MNC’s existing venture in India is into trading and marketing of engines, industrial gensets, crawlers, loaders and other heavy earth moving equipment. Besides, it is also into operating and maintaining of power plants.
