Kolkata: Capgemini, a consulting, technology and outsourcing services major, will increase the headcount in its Indian operations from the present 18,000 to 30,000 by the end of 2008 because of growth in business operations. Gautam Mukherjee, Director, Capgemini Consulting India, said that the company currently operates in six cities, i.e. Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Bangalore. He was speaking to newspersons at the conclusion of a round table discussion on ?Destination West Bengal: IT and Biotechnology? organised under the aegis of the European Union-India Trade and Investment Development Programme at the Kolkata centre. He said the headcount in Kolkata would go up from 900 to 2,000 by December 2008. The Kolkata centre was the fastest to touch a headcount of 500. The idea was to make the Kolkata centre a ?benchmark for Capgemini India in terms of delivery and operations?. The centre would focus on retail and telecom sectors, Mukherjee said.
