BANGALORE: European information technology (IT) major CapGemini, one of the beneficiaries of General Motors’ $7.5 billion IT outsourcing deal, won about $500 million worth of contract over five years. Paul Spence, CEO, Global said, “The company pursued six contracts out of 40 components outsourcing. The GM business has increased three-four times with this deal. We will make about $100 million per year.” CapGemini will assist GM’s information, systems and services organization to support some of the program’s key strategic elements, including management of enterprise-wide application integration, which provides enterprise-level strategic planning, architecture, program management and verification/validation services. Spence said that the win would have an India effect for the company too. CapGemini proposes to increase its GM servicing team to 400 people from 60 currently in the country. The team, a combination of fresh recruits and current personnel, will be based in the Mumbai and Bangalore centers. It will work in one of the business application areas. Betting on India, the company is now expanding its footprint in the country with its ninth site in Kolkata to be inaugurated in March. The IT firm already has centers in Mumbai and Bangalore and employs over 4,000 people. Spence said, “We want to increase the headcount in India to 10,000 by end of 2007. The Indian business continues to grow, split halfway between outsourcing and application management.”
