NEW DELHI: A team of leading Canadian companies and institutions will arrive this month to scout for tie-ups with Indian counterparts to develop academic and corporate links for films, TV and animation. During the 11-day visit from March 15, the mission, including companies like Toon Boom Technologie that want to develop animation studios in India, would try "to match Canadian companies and their business interests with key Indian partners", the Canadian high commission said Thursday. "The mission hopes to raise mutual awareness of the people, culture and capabilities of Canada and India," said Roohi Ahmed of Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. The team would participate in the international FRAMES 2004, an entertainment industry conference being organised in Mumbai on March 24 by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Toon Boom is to receive the top FRAMES award for promotion of the Indian animation sector in the international forum. Over a dozen companies and institutions like the Emily Carr Institute of Arts and Design and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) would be part of the team. India is Canada's largest trading partner in South Asia and has been identified as a priority market.
