NEW DELHI: Canada's state-owned body Export Development Canada (EDC) Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to help Canadian exporters seeking opportunities in India. "This agreement will help Canadian exporters of environmental goods and services pursue opportunities in this sector within India. Also, CII has the contacts and knowledge to help Canadian companies identify Indian partners that will be essential to implementing projects in a foreign environment," CII said in a statement. Under the agreement, CII and EDC will share intelligence about business opportunities and environmental regulations, standards and methodologies and also move firmly towards creating sustainable enterprises in India. "The agreement will strengthen EDC's ability to help Canadian exporters and investors comply with India's environmental requirements when seeking contracts for infrastructure work," said CII. Canadian exporters are scouting for areas for participation in India, in addition to water and wastewater treatment, waste management, clean energy and energy efficiency. "The CII's mission is to promote corporate sustainability management and eco-efficiency within industrial operations and to enable Indian industry to address environmental and sustainability issues effectively and competitively," said the industry lobby.
