Canada offers India help to use gas for automobiles

MUMBAI: A visiting Canadian minister has offered technology for the Indian automobile sector to help utilise compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. Herb Dhaliwal, Canada's minister of natural resources, held meetings with Indian Petroleum Minister Ram Naik and executives of oil companies on the matter during his visit to this financial capital. Oil company officials said the Canadian team also mooted constituting a working group with the Indian petroleum ministry to bring about the technological change. Dhaliwal told the oil company executives that Canada has achieved considerable success in utilising CNG and LNG as auto fuel. The visiting minister, who is of Indian descent, also had meetings with industrialists here. Among other things, Canada has offered trade in oil, gas, paper and paper pulp, minerals and grain. Dhaliwal said trade between India and Canada could treble to US$2 billion in the next few years. Earlier, the visiting minister met with top Bollywood film producers to offer sops for shooting in Canada. "Canada offers a tremendous opportunity for the film industry," Dhaliwal told Bollywood bigwigs at a party organised by filmmaker Subhash Ghai.
