Bangalore: Cloud computing today is undoubtedly the groundbreaking technology that has made possible the provision of computing as a service, as opposed to a product by providing amazing cloud services at a reduced cost. Most of IT companies are planning to adopt cloud computing as an integral part of their computing strategy but the biggest hurdle some of the companies facing here is the Information technology outsourcing(ITO) wherein the companies outsource their computer or internet related work.

Companies that are confined to a contract of ITO or committed to a long term managed services cannot switch on to cloud services immediately as they are under obligation to serve the contract tenure. But the question that arises here is do companies still have an option to take up cloud computing apparently during the contract period of ITO?  Well the answer is Yes! Companies can still go ahead and manage to have cloud co-exist along with IT outsourcing.

Below mentioned are few points to keep in mind when migrating to cloud.

Prior Check on Contract: One needs to review the contract and know all of its conditions thoroughly before meeting the cloud service providers or vendors. Make sure the vendors are aware of the contract and possible changes that can be negotiated in the agreement. Assign the vendors minimum workload and also the outcome when the assigned volume of work crosses the limit.

Target the workload: Target the areas of your workload that can sum up to be well suited for cloud migration. Dev/test or backup and archival are examples of public cloud and high-volume transaction which come under private cloud can be used for this kind of migration.

Service efficiency: Some companies face the problem of receiving the unworthy and inefficient services by their vendors. In such cases most of the service providers discourage the company to get cloud and ask them to wait till they figure out the cause route of the inefficiency in such situation the companies cannot just sit and wait for the problem to get fixed instead they need to get going and switch to a different service provider or vendor.

Insist on work not money: As per an article by gigaom.comMost master services agreements are built around units of work performed in each time period rather than a dollar volume commitment. And once minimum volumes are met, most agreements allow customers to take additional volumes to other vendors and platforms”.
