New Delhi: The promoters of Gem International, allegedly the main conduit between Switzerland-based Swiss Timing Ltd-Omega and arrested former chief of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Suresh Kalmadi, failed to appear before Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). "The CBI summoned the promoters of the Faridabad-based Gem International promoters on Tuesday for alleged involvement in timing, scoring and result (TSR) system scam but they failed to appear before CBI saying they were out of station," said a CBI official, without elaborating on the agency's further course of action. The contract for timing, scoring and result (TSR) system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games awarded to Switzerland-based company, Swiss Timing Ltd-Omega, at an inflated cost of 141 crore, causing a loss of 95 crore to the exchequer. The Swiss company, keen on bagging the contract, had enlisted the services of Gem International to allegedly win over the top players of the Organising Committee, and CBI has collected evidence suggesting that its promoters were the main conduit between Kalmadi and the Swiss firm. "The promoters were in regular touch with Kalmadi at the Swiss company's behest," said CBI sources, adding the Swiss company paid 23 crore as an initial payment to Gem International for the services rendered by it. "The Swiss company was to pay an additional 7-8 crore to Gem International but after the case in the TSR scam was filed, the payment was put on hold," said the source.
