CSC to set up center in Chennai

CHENNAI: Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), a $14.6-billion U.S.-based IT services company, plans to open a development center in Chennai. Initially the company plans to have about 400 employees, and ramp up the strength to 1,000 by year-end and to 3,000 when fully operational, according to Tom Kenyon, President and Managing Director, CSC India. In a year or two, CSC India plans to ramp up its employee strength across the country to 10,000-12,000 from 5,000 now. The company has centers in Noida, Indore, Hyderabad, and Chennai, and each of these centers would have 3,000-3,500 employees in the next couple of years. The company witnessed 14.8 percent attrition rate last year. Globally, CSC employs about 80,000 IT professionals, he said. The Chennai facility to be operational from April 15, would provide applications and infrastructure services for CSC's global clients. According to Kenyon, for its growth in India, CSC would look at acquisition, grow organically, and enter new businesses. Further, CSC India could have a project leadership in infrastructure management; there is a proposal to create a project management center of excellence, he added.
