Hyderabad: Aimed at tapping opportunities in the Indian market, Nyse-listed Computer Sciences (CSC), an IT services company, is all set to double its headcount in India from about 16,000 to about 32,000 in three years, reported The Economic Times. An expected slow-down in the U.S. economy has favored the proposal to increase its headcount in India as more work being outsourced will help the company reduce the cost. A cut in the cost of operations, in turn, could provide agility and flexibility to carry out projects, said Richard C Ricks, President - global outsourcing services-, CSC. He said the company wants to strengthen its capabilities and is mulling more acquisitions for that purpose. In April last year, CSC had acquired Covansys for $1.3 billion. Later, in October it acquired FCG for $365 million. CSC has seven delivery centers in the country including Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Noida. "The headcount here has grown by 75 percent during the last four years. But it has grown by around 150 percent last year given our acquisition of First Consulting Group and Covansys," Ricks said. With Covansys under its fold, CSC could double its headcount to 14,000 in India, while FCG has another 800 people in the country. "We have also considered the rupee appreciation while deciding on expanding India operations, which is part of our strategy to strengthen commercial outsourcing and global footprint. Currently, India is best suited to cater to these requirements in a cost-effective manner," said Ricks. Worldwide analysts have predicted that the U.S. economy might slump into a downturn and IT Industry experts have opined that this could lead to an increase in offshore work and benefit countries like India. CSC's India operations are in five commercial verticals including BFSI, manufacturing, technology and consumer products, chemicals, energy & natural resources and healthcare.
