CII signs pact with Chinese body

BEIJING: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Tuesday signed an agreement with a Chinese trade promotion body for economic, trade and investment cooperation. Anand Mahindra, president of CII, signed the memorandum of understanding with Wan Jifei, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), to promote trade relations between the two countries. A 30-member CII team is visiting China as part of a high-level Indian business delegation accompanying Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who arrived in the Chinese capital Sunday on a six-day visit. As part of the agreement, CII and CCPIT will exchange information on economic and commercial matters that will enhance cooperation between Indian and Chinese enterprises, said a joint declaration. "CCPIT and CII will exchange information of relevance that will facilitate a conducive environment for enhancing trade and investment between India and China," it added. Both the industry chambers also decided to support activities such as seminars and training by Chinese and Indian specialists in India and China respectively. "Also, both organisations will facilitate exchange of eminent scholars and business professionals," said the declaration. CCPIT and CII will cooperate in promoting economic and commercial links between India and China.
