NEW DELHI: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Friday signed an agreement to promote trade and technology exchange between India and Pakistan. As part of the eight-point memorandum of understanding, the two organisations agreed to exchange professional experience, including temporary internship of executives with each other for a maximum period of six months. The agreement was signed by CII deputy director general S. Sen and KCCI secretary Muhammad Nazir Ali. A 35-member Pakistani industry delegation led by KCCI president Siraj Kassam Teli is presently in India. The agreement will provide adequate support for specific programmes, exchange of information about products and industrial processes, industrial training and sources of financing, said a CII statement. "KCCI and CII will exchange information on all economic and commercial matters, and on specific industrial sectors of both countries and on those requested by either of the two," it said. KCCI and CII would also support activities such as seminars, conferences by Pakistani and Indian specialists in each other's country in specified industrial sectors, besides providing full cooperation to each other in the promotion of trade fairs and exhibitions. The delegation from Pakistan comprised industry leaders from sectors like textiles, auto components, machine tools and pharmaceuticals. Speaking on the occasion, Teli said there was a need for higher investments in each other's markets, which would also help build better ties between the two countries. The Pakistani delegation felt that greater cooperation between the two sides under the SAARC platform would benefit the South Asian market.
