Subrah Iyar, who steers the world's largest Web-conferencing company, WebEx [NASD: WEBX], wins the most prestigious siliconindia CEO of the Year Award. As head of a profitable public company, with a 58 percent market share for Web-conferencing services, Iyar has plans to turn WebEx into a billion-dollar empire in five years.

FREMONT: The chairman, CEO, and Co-Founder, WebEx Communications, Subrah has been an Internet innovator for over 18 years. Previously, Subrah spent six years at Apple Computer where he was instrumental in creating the first OS licensing business in the Newton Group. At Intel, he directed product marketing and OEM sales management within the LAN software and systems group. He was also president of Future Labs, a Quarterdeck subsidiary, and vice president of sales, marketing, and business development at Teleos Research, which was acquired by Autodesk. Even before anyone thought of how Internet could change businesses, Subrah was quick enough to make his business web-enabled. He transformed WebEx's sales model from an enterprise server software model to a completely Web-based service available on a subscription basis. WebEx now has a network of 550 servers installed in eight countries around the world and a market value of $1.5 billion. It also provides its services to over 4,000 corporate customers. The CEO’s foresight into the future of e-business allowed WebEx to capture what IDC has identified as a $42.8 billion market. Subrah holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and an M.S. in Computer Engineering from University of Southwestern Louisiana. Since 1995, he has served as chairman and CEO of WebEx Communications, Inc. Iyar will moderate a CXO roundtable along with Promod Haque, General Partner, Norwest Venture Partners and B. V. Jagadeesh, CEO, Netscaler at the siliconindia Annual Conference, to be held on 16 November. The CXO Roundtable is an invitation-only, closed-door gathering, where founders of business and technology companies share a platform to talk about issues close to their hearts. This is where you will witness the unfolding of the current thoughts and strategies in the minds of top executives.
