CDAC holds e-security awareness programme

Bangalore: Considering the significance of information security in present time when everything has an online presence, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) is conducting awareness raising workshops on Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) for students, teachers, home users and government non-IT professionals. The main objective of the programme, backed by the Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India, is to create awareness on issues related to information security for the target audience. "Information security has become synonymous with National Security today. Starting from private lives to social lives of people, the threat of information security has become a serious concern", said Sarat Chandra Babu Executive Director, CDAC (Knowledge Park). Considering need and growing importance of the information security, Department of IT, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India has formulated and initiated the ISEA programme. CDAC Knowledge Park centre is participating in ISEA cause by conducting workshops at schools and Government organization in Karnataka, he added. The presentations in the workshops include guidelines on various Internet security aspects as well as awareness on how cyber attacks happen and how one can be protected. Animated short awareness films have been used to demonstrate all these. CDAC Knowledge Park Centre initiated this programme at Bangalore in June 2010 with support from its officials who have volunteered to spread the awareness by conducting ISEA workshops at schools and Government departments. At a time when people are becoming more and more net savvy, issues related to information security bear utmost importance, and awareness programmes like ISEA are expected to make a real difference.
