ISLANDIA: Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today named George Kafkarkou senior vice president of worldwide channel operations. Kafkarkou most recently was general manager for indirect sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He reports to Gary Quinn, executive vice president, sales and field operations. "We want to help our channel partners meet the needs of customers around the world with a broader spectrum of CA solutions," said Quinn. "With his extensive experience in direct and indirect channels, George is uniquely qualified to help us fulfill this critical business objective." Kafkarkou will grow the company's channel business by leveraging the success of programs designed to help CA engage its channel partners in more business transactions. These include extending the incentives given to CA's direct sales force for channel referrals beyond CA's BrightStor family of storage solutions. Under Kafkarkou's direction, these extensions have been successful in Europe with CA's eTrust and AllFusion ERwin product lines. Prior to his most recent position, Kafkarkou was general manager and senior vice president of distributed enterprise management software in Europe. Earlier, while based in the U.S., he served as vice president application development and for desktop software. He joined CA in 1982. "Throughout my tenure with CA, I've seen the benefits that both customers and the channel can achieve from CA's advanced technology solutions," said Kafkarkou. "I look forward to helping our channel partners grow their business in both revenue and depth of account penetration by delivering an even wider spectrum of solutions to customers." Replacing Kafkarkou in Europe is Chris Devlin, who joined CA in 1996 and most recently was senior vice president for storage in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
