CA co-operating with US govt

LAS VEGAS: The interim chief executive of Computer Associates International, facing US federal probes into its accounting, said the company was cooperating "in every way" with the government.
The software maker restated two years of results in April and said $2.2 billion in revenue had been booked improperly.
The company has pushed out at least 15 employees, including its chief financial officer and chief counsel. Chairman and CEO Sanjay Kumar stepped down and became chief software architect.
"We are in every way cooperating with the government, and we will continue to do so," Interim CEO and director Kenneth Cron said in an interview. "We are not expecting more personnel changes."
Asked if there was anything, in terms of financial controls or personnel changes, that was demanded by the government but not yet carried out, Cron said: "No, not to my knowledge."
Computer Associates, which has been dogged by two long-running government investigations into its accounting, kicked off its annual conference with customers in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Cron's keynote speech, which painted a bright picture of the company's future, won a round of applause from 10,000 of the company's customers and partners.
"The company leadership is focussing on the future of the company. We are looking forward," said Cron, who accepted the interim CEO post last month.
Cron, former CEO with Vivendi Universal SA's games division, has been nominated by Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone to sit on the board of video game publisher Midway Games.
He said he would be interested in careers in media, technology and entertainment after finishing his interim role at Computer Associates.
