CA adds to executive management team

ISLANDIA: Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE:CA) Friday announced that Mark J. Barrenechea has joined CA as senior vice president of product development. In this newly created position, Barrenechea will oversee the majority of CA's worldwide research and development activities, and will be responsible for ensuring customer-focused innovation across the company's brand units. Barrenechea will report to CA Chairman and CEO Sanjay Kumar. Barrenechea, 38, comes to CA from Oracle Corporation, where he served in a variety of positions, including senior vice president, applications development, and as a member of the Executive Management Committee. "We are determined to continue to enhance our position as a global software leader across our various brand units, and adding Mark to our strong leadership team is an important part of that strategy," Kumar said. "His reputation as an industry leader and his track record of formulating and executing winning technology strategies in highly competitive markets will be of enormous benefit to CA, our customers, and our shareholders," Kumar added. By leading product development across CA's brands, Barrenechea will optimize the synergies among the company's diverse technologies. He will also spearhead the company's ongoing efforts to accelerate development cycles, optimize software quality, and maintain a rigorous focus on customer requirements. Prior to joining Oracle in 1997, Barrenechea was vice president, application development at Scopus Technology and Ceridian/Tesseract Corporation.
