Brooks Automation starts operations in Chennai

CHENNAI: Nasdaq-listed Brooks Automation Inc, a global provider of automation solutions to semiconductor and related industries, has set up a wholly owned subsidiary in Chennai with an initial investment of Rs 3.5 crore. The primary function of Brooks Automation India (P) Ltd (BAIPL) would be to support the engineering research and development of its parent, including software maintenance support, documentation and development of new software, president and chief operating officer of the US-based company, Edward C Grady told reporters on Thursday. He said the company expected a turnover of at least $15 million from its Indian subsidiary in the next five years. The Chennai facility has become operational on Thursday. It has 50 seats, to be increased to 150 over the next two years.
