BANGALORE: Communications semiconductor major, Broadcom, said it was actively looking at acquiring companies in India. Announcing this, Broadcom’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Scott A. McGregor said that some Indian companies were on its ‘radar’ for acquisitions. “The company normally acquires one or two companies every quarter,’ he added. Broadcom has employee strength of about 200 personals in Bangalore, up from 30 when it started operations in India in 1999 through its acquisition of Armedia. He said, “Broadcom had moved the R&D operations to a new facility in Bangalore. We are expecting to continue our growth move in India as it expands design teams to provide additional R&D resources to support new and existing business opportunities globally.” In addition to the Athena team, the company has around 140 engineers in India working on set-top box, networking infrastructure and wireless products. The development of Broadcom India's R&D capabilities has resulted in more than 1,000 patents.
