London: English is their mother tongue, but many young Britons are unable to read, write or communicate properly in that language, according to the head of the British Chambers of Commerce. The Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce, David Frost, has said that young Britons also don't work hard and so employers can't just afford to ignore cheaper skilled foreign workers as they need the "best people". "Businesses expect young people to come forward to them who are able to read, write, communicate and have a strong work ethic and too often that's not the case," 'The Daily Telegraph' quoted Frost as saying in an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme. He added: "There's a stream of highly able eastern European migrants who are able to take those jobs and that's why they're taking them on. They are skilled, they speak good English and, more importantly, they want to work." His comments represent the strongest criticism of immigration since Downing Street strategists advised that the British government should be tougher on the issue.
