Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh High Court Tuesday gave more time to Brakel Corp of Holland to file its reply on a petition filed by Reliance Energy challenging the state government's allotment of a multi-million dollar hydropower project to the Dutch firm. The next hearing will be held May 18. During a Jan 8 hearing, Reliance Energy's plea for staying the signing of the pre-implementation agreement between the government and Brakel for executing the Thopan-Powari-Jangi hydropower project in Kinnaur district failed to find favour with the court. The government had decided to sign the agreement with Brakel Nov 25, 2008. Reliance Energy challenged the government's decision to allow Brakel to continue with the 4,000-crore ($869-million) project that was awarded to the company Dec 1, 2006 by the previous Congress government through open international bidding. Reliance Energy, one of the bidders, has moved the high court three times since the allotment of the project in 2006. Two earlier petitions by Reliance against the government were dismissed by the court.
