MUMBAI: The worldÂ’s biggest commercial airplane maker Boeing Co. said it will build India's first civilian pilot training center, betting that investments to familiarize flight crew with its aircraft could lead to greater sales and give it the edge to catch up with Airbus SAS. Boeing will install $15 million flight simulators of its 737, 777 and 787 models in the training facility, said the company's sales vice president Dinesh Keskar, at a Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation conference in Mumbai. ``It's absolutely essential that we bring the facility to India,'' Keskar said, without disclosing Boeing's investment plan and the training center's location. ``Carriers in India are going to order a lot of planes and the need for training will rise.'' Airlines of the world's second-most populous nation, with $24 billion of orders for 213 planes this year, need facilities for training and aircraft maintenance as they expand their route network and fleets to meet rising demand for air travel. Indian facilities also help airlines train their flight crew at lower costs compared with training centers abroad.
