Bangalore: The world's popular search engine Google and its contender Microsoft are getting ready to indulge in a battle for dominating the 'search' field next year. Analysts have a split decision on the winner of the search supremacy this year. While most of them favor Microsoft’s Bing, Google continues to hold the major share in the field. Microsoft’s partnership with the social networking giants Facebook and Twitter played a major role in accelerating Bing this year. According to Patrick Moorhead, Principal Analyst at Moor Insights and Strategy, “Microsoft has won the overall rivalry this year in terms of growth and strategic moves”.

While Microsoft is pushing its search engine hard by integrating it with social media, iOS app and Bing for Xbox & Kinect; Google has taken a step forward by introducing features like voice and image search tools along with instant pages. Google also integrated the search engine to its social network Google+ which still struggles to find its market share.

After the launch of Bing in 2009, there has been only one time in two years that Google has dropped its market share below its benchmark of 65 percent. Over that same period, Bing’s market share raised to double. But Google retained its position within 2 months grabbing 65.3 percent of customers in the U.S., based on the report by comScore, an Internet tracking company.

The analysts are looking at the mobile market as a platform for exploitation by the search engines next year. If Microsoft becomes successful in their plans of acquiring Yahoo, it will help Bing to some extent in the future competition with Google. 2012 will witness major changes with more innovations and experiments conducted by the tech giants. This will provide the users with more features and precision in future searches.
