Bhilai Steel Plant achieves highest production so far

Raipur: Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the flagship unit of the state-run Steel Authority of India (SAIL), has ended the 2008-09 financial year with its best production figures so far, the company said in a statement Friday. "The year 2008-09 ended with the Bhilai plant recording best-ever production of hot metal, crude steel, saleable steel, rails, merchant products, wire rods, rolled billets and finished steel," the company said. According to the statement, BSP produced 5.39 million tonnes of hot metal, 5.18 million tonnes of crude steel and 4.49 million tonnes of saleable steel, registering growths of 2.3 percent, 2.5 percent and 1.4 percent respectively from that produced in 2007-08. "The growth in iron ore dispatches over the last financial year has been 5 percent. The growth registered in production of dolomite over last fiscal has been 11 percent," it added. The Bhilai unit, India's largest integrated steel plant in the public sector, is located in Chhattisgarh state's Durg district, some 30 km from state capital Raipur.
