Bharti in $230 M outsourcing deal

NEW DELHI: Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd., India's top mobile services firm, which has 12.2 million GSM mobile users, plans to outsource its call center operations to several companies in a contract estimated at up to $230 million. No other details were available. Bharti officials could not be reached for comment. Over the past two years Bharti, 30.8 percent owned by Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., has outsourced building and maintenance of GSM networks and IT infrastructure to global firms such as Ericsson and IBM mainly to drive down costs.
