Bharti Q2 up 43% as customer base grows

NEW DELHI: IndiaÂ’s biggest mobile phone operator Bharti Tele-Ventures Ltd has reported a 43 percent jump in quarterly profit as users surged in the world's fastest growing mobile market.
Bharti, 30.84 percent owned by Singapore Telecommunications Ltd, said consolidated net profit rose to $116 million in the second quarter ended Sept. 30. Revenues rose to $165 million.
Bharti, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, Hutchison Essar Telecom Ltd and CDMA operator Reliance Infocomm Ltd are competing to meet demand for wireless connectivity in Asia's third largest economy.
