Best scores in CAT? IIMs may still be a dream
Mumbai: After much talked over online launch of Common Admission Test (CAT), the IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) management is planning to lower the weightage for the score obtained in CAT to get admission in IIMs. Lowering the weightage means that IIM, which fully entrusted its admission criteria based on highest CAT scores (90 points), would now settle for just 50. A senior faculty from IIM-Kozhikode said, "We plan to revamp the admission criteria. From now, the performance of students in class X and XII, apart from their work experience would be given importance. The change was mulled from the past two-three years and has finally settled to bring down the CAT weightage to 50 points this year." For the next admission season, IIM Bangalore has decided to go on the lines of IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A). IIM-Bangalore has announced that the candidates should be prepared for essay writing, something that IIM-A started way back in 2007. An IIM-B official said, "Thirty minutes would be granted to the candidates to reflect upon current issues like political, economic and business affairs and write their opinion. Topics like sports and others, which require a creative thinking, can also be included." IIM-A has not disclosed the selection process and IIM-Calcutta's selection process is likely to be unchanged. The new IIMs, which will be start its academic session this year, are yet to take any decision on the selection procedure.
