MUMBAI: Bayer (India), renamed as Bayer CropScience, has recorded a Rs 80.98 crore profit before extra-ordinary items for its year ended December 31, 2003 even as the board has appointed UB group chairman Vijay Mallya as the chairman of the company. The sales of the company for the period under review stood at Rs 870.39 crore, Bayer said in a release here on Friday. The change in name is subject to the necessary approvals from the regulatory authorities. This decision is pursuant to the merger of Bayer (India) and Bayer Cropscience India (formerly Aventis CropScience India) in the year 2003. The successful merger resulted in the company consolidating its position in the cropscience business and today it is the largest cropscience company in India. As the company's substantial turnover is from the cropscience business, the board of management considered it appropriate to change the name, such that it indicates the main business of the company.
