Bangalore: N Raghuram, a Bangalorean is all set to bring out his comic book series of Indian novels on ipad soon. The 38-year-old plans to tell great stories from regional-language literature in comic book format without diluting their theme and seriousness. They will appear in seven Indian languages, apart from English, Japanese, French and Spanish. You will also be able to access them in paperback version, reports Bangalore Mirror. Last week, the comics were released in Los Angeles during the Navika Kannada conference organised by the Vishva Kannadigara Sangha. The initiative evoked an excellent response in the U.S. where about 90,000 Kannadigas live. Raghuram said, "The intention is to simplify reading and make people from traditional readers to sophisticated youth across nationalities connect to our literary heritage." He spent almost a year developing the concept. He first sent the summaries and format to about 1,000 people, seeking their opinions. Only then did he start work in earnest. He plans to release one popular novel in each language every month and works of Kannada writers like Masti Venkatesh Iyengar, Ta Ra Subba Rao, Triveni and Anupama Niranjan are already available on the net. Apart from English, the comic books will be released in the following Indian languages: Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali. The book will have a summary at the beginning and an introduction to the main characters who will reflect their era. Novels that normally run into several hundred pages are reduced to about 2,500 words in 32 pages and come with attractive illustrations. Though works are condensed, care is taken to see that nothing is misrepresented.
