BT to invest around 2-3 million pounds in India

MUMBAI: UK-based telecom major British Telecom (BT) is planning to invest around two to three million pounds in India by July 2003 to set up managed network service operations.
The company would utilise the amount mainly to purchase both voice-and data-based networking equipment, BT Worldwide (Asia-Pacific) president, Graham Moore said at the NASSCOM 2003 here today.
"Some of our clients are setting up call centres in India and it will be convenient for us to service them, if we have a base here", he added.
BT is planning to set up centres in Delhi and Bangalore by July 2003 and another centre in Mumbai by the end of the year, Moore added.
The telecom major is scouting for joint venture partners and is in negotiations with four local companies. However, Moore said a time-frame was not fixed for the finalisation of the deals
