HYDERABAD: Domestic broadband internet is all set to become even more affordable with the country’s largest integrated telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) lowering the tariffs within a couple of days. BSNL Chairman and Managing Director A.K. Sinha said that BSNL would lower its broadband tariffs from the current 500 ($11) a month to about 250-300 ($5.50–$6) a month and also plans to woo its dial up internet users to move to broadband. “Following this move, we expect to add about 1 million broadband connections this year and about 2 million more next. About 1.8 million dial up internet connection users would be attracted to come over to the broadband network for enhanced browsing experience,” he said. Sinha also said the company has earmarked $ 5 billion towards capital expenditure this fiscal, which would significantly go into expansion of the GSM network, customer services, internet backbone and landline that will be mostly wireless.
