WASHINGTON: The issue that is of concern to Indian Americans today is how India is perceived because of the issue of outsourcing, according to American legislator Joseph Crowley. Crowley, the Democratic Congressman who is co-chairman of the House Caucus on India and Indian Americans, told the American Israel Public Affairs Committee at a meeting held earlier this month that Indian American "believe that there is an element of racism involved, because it is India and not Israel and Ireland where a lot of these IT jobs are going to." In the past, he said, when the jobs were going to Ireland and Israel, it did not get so much attention "but now that there are Indians answering the phone, they feel a great deal of concern about how they are perceived and how India is perceived, and they feel that it is unfair."
